FLOW Bridge
Region, Route & Location: Wales and Western Region | Wales & Borders Route | Craven Arms Station on the Welsh Marches Line

To support the wellbeing of lineside communities, and the delivery of net zero, Network Rail has been working to improve the safety on of the railway. Level crossings, whilst being incredibly useful to the public, do pose a significant safety risk particularly when over 35% of level crossings across the network are footpaths.
To combat this, a previously closed footpath level crossing has been replaced with a new modular FLOW (Fibre Reinforced Polymer, Low Cost and Lighter Weight, Optimised Design, Working Bridge) Bridge. Bridges are already a much safer option than level crossings, and this bridge in particular not only reduces the risks associated with level crossings, but is also a revolutionary way to reduce the carbon emissions normally associated with these types of structures.
Due to steel not being used in the manufacturing process, and a concrete free Rapid-Root foundation system, carbon emissions are massively reduced alongside a 40% reduction in manufacturing costs.
