Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme
Region, Route & Location: Eastern Region | North & East Route | River Aire

Network Rail in collaboration with Leeds City Council and the Aire Rivers Trust has been working along a 14km stretch of the railway from Leeds Station to Apperley Bridge in direct response to the devastating 2015 floods in the City of Leeds and the ever changing climate.
The Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme had £200m invested across two parts that will help Network Rail to support the wellbeing of local commnuities by building new steel sheet piled flood defenses which will positively impact over 4000 homes and 1000 businesses across Leeds.
These improved flood defenses, along with improved lineside soil and land management by planting new trees and shrubs, reduces the probability of a flood like this happening again to 0.5%, or a one-in-two hundred year chance.
