Delivering a greener railway
Our Strategy
In May 2025, we refreshed our Greener Railway Strategy. We have identified eight priority areas that will help us achieve our ambitions. All eight areas are supported by our desire to build a culture of sustainability across our organisation.
To achieve a greener railway, we need to put sustainability at the core of how we do business. That’s why our refreshed strategic ambitions are to have:
- a railway that is fit for the future
- a railway that cares for the environment
- a railway that helps communities thrive
As well as our Greener Railway strategy, in 2023 we worked with partners across the rail industry on the launch of the Sustainable Rail Blueprint (SRB). The SRB is the industry-wide blueprint for realising sustainable rail, and we are committed to supporting it. We also remain committed to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
