Cutting Carbon Emissions in Royston

Region, Route & Location: Eastern | East Coast Route | Royston

Royston Worksite

In October 2023 Network Rail completed a set of engineering works at Royston producing zero carbon emissions for the first time.  Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) was renewed over four days where alternative machine was used instead of the tradition diesel power. Everything used over the four days was battery powered from the hybid rail engineering vehicles (Mobile Elevated Working Platfoms) and welfare facilities, to the tower lighting and power tools.

A worksite like this shows our commitment to supporting the delivery of net zero with other very clear benefits that include 1150 litres of diesel saved; cleaner air for our colleagues while working; and less noise due to engines not running or idling which not only benefits our colleagues, but also reduces the impact to our lineside neighbours massively.
