Route to Net Zero

Network Rail uses a metric known as Route to Net Zero on the national scorecard to measure how well we’re performing against our eight key priorities from the Greener Railway Strategy.

Route to Net Zero monitors our carbon emissions for energy use, waste generation, and business travel, then compares them against our emissions in 2023/2024. This helps understand how our initiative and behaviour changes are helping to support the delivery of net zero by 2045 (Scotland) and 2050 (England and Wales).
